How the Tool Works
This tool provides an interactive Leaflet-based map that visualizes illustrative no-fly zones and restricted airspaces for educational purposes. It is not a real-time regulatory tool.

- Interactive Map (Leaflet + OpenStreetMap): A full-featured pan/zoom map with tile layers from OpenStreetMap.
- Location Search (Nominatim Geocoding): Enter a city, address, or coordinates to center the map on that location. Uses the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding API.
- GPS Location: Uses the browser’s
navigator.geolocationAPI to center the map on the user’s current position (with permission). - Illustrative No-Fly Zones: Predefined example zones drawn on the map:
- London City Center — 5km red circle
- Heathrow Airport — red polygon
- Los Angeles Downtown — 7km orange circle
- Washington D.C. TFR — purple polygon

1. Is this map accurate for real flight planning?
No. This map is for educational and illustrative purposes only. It does not provide real-time, legally authoritative, or comprehensive no-fly zone, restricted airspace, or TFR data. Always use official sources like FAA B4UFLY, NOTAMs, or your national aviation authority.
2. What is a no-fly zone (NFZ)?
A no-fly zone is an area where drone flight is restricted or prohibited, typically to protect airports, military installations, government buildings, critical infrastructure, or during special events. Violating an NFZ can result in fines, legal action, or confiscation of equipment.
3. What is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR)?
A TFR is a geographically limited, short-term restriction of airspace, often issued for VIP movements, natural disasters, or major events. TFRs can change rapidly — always check NOTAMs before flying.
4. How do I check real airspace restrictions?
Use official tools like the FAA B4UFLY app (US), NATS Drone Assist (UK), or your national aviation authority’s drone app. Always check NOTAMs and local regulations before every flight.
5. Why does the map show zones in London, LA, and DC?
These are example zones chosen to demonstrate how different types of restrictions (city centers, airports, TFRs) appear on a map. They are not meant to represent actual current restrictions.
6. Can I use my GPS location?
Yes. Click “Use My GPS” and the browser will request permission to access your location. The map will then center on your position. Note that GPS accuracy varies and may not work indoors.
7. What map data is used?
The map uses OpenStreetMap tiles, which are free and open-source. The geocoding uses the OpenStreetMap Nominatim service. Both are community-maintained and may have occasional inaccuracies.
